Creating the dream Warhammer 40000 work and display space : part 2 - Antique write up and some pics.

While the weeks have been busier than ever before in my life and I am still waiting for our sea container and my modeling gear to arrive, the new desk is home and eager to carry some tools and paints. I have nothing else to share, so a few more pics and some history on the maker.

  1. It's beautiful. All of those pull-out drawers; what were they originally used for?

  2. This is honestly one of the most interesting and inspiring projects out there at the moment. I can't wait to see what you do with this.

  3. Yay! It's Migs!

Envy's right, I'm really interested to see where this goes. It's such a beautiful desk.

  4. Phiq: they were desks for businesses. I assume banks and such, where a number of check stacks, stamps, notes, and what not would go to the lockers.

Tears of Envy & Fulgrim: Thanks you :) I have some really nice details in mind and am very excited of this. Its something I've been waiting for a loooong time. According to a number of internet sites/ebay these desks are going for between 2,000-2,500 USD, I bought mine from a big secondhand shop with a very mixed variety of things for 600! :)

  5. That's a great price. You can sometimes find roll-top desks a little cheaper but they're usually missing all of their drawers and in quite a poor condition. This is a great find. I hope you spent the money you saved on plastic kits :)

  6. Just came across your blog randomly while researching ideas for a diorama I'm working on, and the first thing I saw was this desk.

Congrats on a wonderful purchase, it is an absolutely great find!

  7. That is one beautiful desk you got there! So jealous.
Just wanted to say that I have been a fan of yours for awhile now and I appreciate everything that you brought to this hobby of ours. Your T.W.A.R project was wicked but all this new stuff your are doing is just taking it to a whole new level of awesomenes.
You have inspired me so much that I am once again gonna be picking up my brushes and putting paint to plastic. Hopefully I'll be able to imbue my miniatures with as much character as you have. I too like the idea of creating background to a model so they become much more than lead and paint. Writing little bits of story and history brings out meaning and purpose for the smallest detail of a model and gives them a sense of life.
Once again, thank you so much!
